“Life can keep unfolding itself to you, just as long as you pay attention to it” – Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
There’s a little sleeper film from 2015 called Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. It’s in a similar vein as The Fault in Our Stars, and yet charts some of it’s own quirky and moving territory. Both films are based on Young Adult novels, both deal with life threatening diseases for teens, and both offer opportunities for reflection and looking at life’s purpose.
With Me and Earl the message boils down to the quote listed above. Each life has many layered stories, and we can all continue to learn about those living, and those who have passed. Their stories live on.
It’s a comforting, bittersweet, lovely concept.
I’ve decided if a film can leave you with one lasting impression…then it’s done its job well.
As we enter into a new year, 2016, the thought of life continuing to unfold itself is pretty exciting for those still around…and those who are no longer in our lives.
Happy New Year.
