Justin Bieber – Sorry and Adele – Hello

justin_bieber_0_1445527168 adele-hello

This Fall there are 2 singles that have been released by 2 major artists: Justin Beiber and Adele.

Justin Bieber has just released “Sorry” and Adele has just released “Hello”. Both artists are at the top of their game. Justin’s and Adele’s video came out on the same day, October 22nd, 2015. As of the writing of this blog Justin’s video already has 40 million views, and Adele’s video has over 115 million views.

Incredible times for artists who can reach so many people in such a short amount of time. The rules of music have changed so dramatically. And we are lucky enough to get to witness it and enjoy it.

And they are fortunate as artists to have such amazing exposure to their work.

Both songs are wildly different and share a similar quality, they are hits.

Thought it would be interesting to mash these 2 artists together. At least for this blog.

Enjoy Sorry and Hello.

The Godfather

poster_the_godfather_

The Godfather from 1972 is still an incredible film over 40 years later. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and winner of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium (Mario Puzo’s Novel). It tells the story of the Corleone Family in the 1940s & 50s. and is considered one of the best films ever made.

We recently watched again The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, and The Godfather Part 3. They are still gripping, suspenseful films with incredible performances by Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Lee Strasberg, and more.

And as with most great works of art, it starts with the story and the writing. The story is a crime drama, and yet themes of loyalty, friendship, trust, honor, family, duty, respect, and passion abound.

Peter Clemenza: Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Michael: [speaking to Carlo] Only don’t tell me you’re innocent. Because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry.

Calo: In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns.

[speaking to himself, practicing his speech]

Luca Brasi: Don Corleone, I am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your home on the wedding day of your daughter. And may their first child be a masculine child.

Tasty

Tasty

Tasty is an online resource that presents “snack sized” video clips of foods being prepared. It is a division of BuzzFeed. I’ve “liked” the page on Facebook and therefore are following the videos posted everyday. There is something about the clean camera work, simple graphics and quick motion of the videos that are kind of hypnotic. At the same time it makes food preparation seem more interesting. In my home, I am the sous chef. (basically chop the vegetables). So this will serve as a new source of inspiration. Or maybe I will just watch the videos.

From their Facebook page: “Food that’ll make you close your eyes, lean back, and whisper “yessss.” Snack-sized videos and recipes you’ll want to try.”

MOMA

The Museum of Modern Art is one of my favorite museums in the world. Located at 11 West 53rd Street in New York, NY. The collection is quite vast and they always have new exhibitions. They even offer free admission every Friday from 4pm – 8pm. But arrive early or as they suggest around 6pm to avoid the long lines.

The space had a major renovation from 2002-2004 when they moved the entire museum temporarily to Queens. Upon completion the new space offered nearly double the space.

Extraordinary works of art can be found at MOMA. Including works by Van Gogh, Matisse, Pollack, Monet, and Warhol.

Tim Hortons

This is a shout out to my Canadian friends. They love their Tim Hortons or Timmy Ho’s. They love it even more than Starbucks. It’s been around for over 50 years and is an institution in the country.

TimHortons

Tim Hortons is a restaurant which serves coffee and doughnuts which opened May 17th, 1964. According to wikipedia: Miles Gilbert “Tim” Horton was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. In 1998 Tim Horton was ranked number 43 on The Hockey News list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players. Sadly, he died in a car accident at the age of 44. In 1964, Horton opened his first Tim Horton Doughnut Shop in Hamilton, Ontario on Ottawa Street.

On my recent visit we visited Tim Hortons not one, not two, but three times. Coffee, Donuts, and Timbits. Reminds me of Dunkin Donuts here in the US.

It’s cool discovering regional obsessions that mean something to people. The places where people have grown up visiting. And a place where Canadians can still pay homage to one of their own.
