A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder

Ah. Musical Theatre. And particularly Best Musical Musical Theatre. And even more particularly A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder. This charming, clever show deservedly won the Tony for Best Musical. Think of it as a Musical Theatre Comedy Operetta. Based on a novel written by Roy Horniman called Israel Rank: the Autobiography of a Criminal. The performances, sets, costumes, music, lyrics, direction, and book all come together in a witty and thoughtful way. And I have been saying to my friends that this show is definitely for the Musical Theatre Intelligentsia; those musical theatre purists. It’s funny too.
