The Disneyland Minimalist

There’s a young artist named Tony Sherg who has created a series of artwork called The Disney Minimalist. He uses his art and design skills to reimagine Disney Icons.

From his website:

Star Wars

Star Wars. It changed cinema forever, and soundtracks, and action figures, and popular culture. Written and directed by George Lucas, it was such a sensation when it came out, audiences were lined up around the USA waiting to see it. It’s come a long way since it’s beginnings in 1977. There are currently 6 films with 3 new films being produced (Episode VII being released in 2015).

From wikipedia: Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created byGeorge Lucas. The film series, consisting of two trilogies, has spawned an extensive media franchise called the Expanded Universe including books, television series, computer and video games, and comic books. These supplements to the franchise resulted in significant development of the series’ fictional universe, keeping the franchise active in the 16-year interim between the two film trilogies. The franchise depicts a galaxy described as far, far away in the distant past, and it commonly portrays Jedi as a representation of good, in conflict with the Sith, their evil counterpart. Their weapon of choice, the lightsaber, is commonly recognized in popular culture. The franchise’s storylines contain many themes, with strong influences from philosophy and religion.

Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas! Must say I have come late to the Las Vegas train. It’s a fun city that has a very specific vibe. Lots of ways and places to enjoy yourself: resorts, gambling, casinos, shows, restaurants, nightlife, tourist attractions, art. Having traveled there a few times lately I have become fascinated by the Wonka slot machines. These newer slot machines seem to be the next generation of slots; ones that entertain you with bells & whistles. With Wonka you see clips of the film, win Golden Tickets, and see different character’s memorable moments played out visually. Plus, they have speakers in the seat so it feels immersive. Which is a metaphor for Vegas. You can lose yourself in the spectacle of it all. What happens in Vegas…

Box Office Mojo

Have had an interest in box office results for years. Who knows why? Guess because my fondness for movies, and when they do well it validates my opinions on them. It’s a fun website to visit, if not the most creative in design, it has become a one stop shop for all statistics regarding box office. They also get into the prediction game to see which films will do well. What movie are you going to see this weekend?

And let me be honest, 50% of the reason we go is to eat popcorn.

Box Office Mojo

Neighbors is going to be a big hit, I predict. Kind of along the lines of the first Hangover film. It opens May 9th and stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco. Expect raunchy, outrageous stuff. And if you saw This Is The End you should expect a similar approach. Every now and then we need a comedy like to this to come along, get us out of our heads, and make us laugh.
