Blue Jasmine is Woody Allen’s newest film starring Cate Blachett. It follows the downward spiral of Blanchett’s Jasmine as she tries to come to grips with her life falling apart. With similarities and inspiration from A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it is a solid film with exceptional performances. Cate Blanchett is surely going to receive an Oscar nomination, if not win. What works about this film is that it is so steadily directed and performed, you feel in capable hands even as Jasmine’s world unravels.
