Dictionary.com

dictionary_twitter_iconVisit dictionary.com on a weekly basis as I am fascinated by words and their meanings, both basic and connotative.  Want to speak accurately, better understand words and their definitions.

In college I learned that poetry utilizes words to their fullest. Take this poem by William Carlos Williams as an example. Noting that these are not complex words, but they are descriptive and clear.

This Is Just To Say

by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

The simplicity of thought and clarity of ideas is the goal. And dictionary.com supports the pursuit.

Here is a sampling of some of the recent word searches I have made to dictionary.com.
