Rear Window

My favorite Alfred Hitchcock film. Many prefer Psycho, Vertigo or North by Northwest. However, Rear Window is a fantastic, clever, well-rounded film. While containing frights and plenty of tension, it also has humor and romance. How many movies can pull that off? And, it also had Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. Doesn’t get much better than that. Classic, ground-breaking, and riveting.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: AllStars

Honey RuRu.

RuPaul’s Drag Race has completed 4 seasons already. Winner’s have been: Bebe Zahara, Tyra Sanchez, Raja, and Sharon Needles. And this year they have RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars. Sure to be entertaining. Starting on October 22nd. The show is amazing and delivers on talent, costumes and the most ridiculous/amazing quotes. Dragalicious, Dragtastic and Dragtacular.

Some selections from Rupaul’s Drag Race Slang Dictionary:

chanté, you stay (interjection): what RuPaul says to the drag queen who is one of the bottom two contestants, but is saved and moves on to the next round after lipsyncing for her life (see also lipsync for lifesashay away). Stemming from the lyrics of her 1992 dance hit “Supermodel (You Better Work),” it’s the equivalent of Heidi Klum’s or Ryan Seacrest’s “You’re safe” onProject Runway and American Idol, respectively.

charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent (n.): the four qualities RuPaul looks for in America’s next drag superstar.

chicken cutlets (n. pl.): brassiere gel inserts that give a drag queen cleavage.

condragulations (interjection): good wishes and compliments directed toward a drag queen.

extravaganza eleganza (n.): something possessing exceptionally high amounts of elegance.

interior illusions lounge (n.): the backstage room where the contestants sit as the judges deliberate.

lipsync for your life (n.): a drag queen’s final opportunity to impress RuPaul and save herself from elimination. After the contestants show off their looks on the runway, the bottom two contestants go head-to-head on the main stage, lipsyncing to a song of RuPaul’s choosing. Often times, wigs and clothing come off.

Meryl Streep realness (n.): the attempt to achieve a high level of authenticity in a screen performance by not being afraid to look unattractive (see alsocountry realnessfierce jazzercise realnessSoul Train realness). When the dragtestants are faced with an acting challenge in RuPaul’s faux filmFrom Earth to Uranus, one queen thinks she knows what it takes to be no. 1. Example: “I’m bringing Meryl Streep realness. You gotta get ugly to win the gold.”—Season 3 contestant Mimi Imfurst.

read (v.): the art of insulting, as popularized by the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning (see also throwing shade).

sashay away (v.): the direction RuPaul gives to the drag queen who is one of the bottom two contestants and is eliminated after lipsyncing for her life (see also chantéyou staylipsync for life).

two piece and a biscuit (n.): the secret to success for Season 2 contestantMystique. This Popeye’s signature meal became synonymous with Season 2’s resident “big girl.”

work (v.): what “you betta” do, according to RuPaul, to stay in the competition.

Judy Garland

Perhaps the best ballad singer that has ever lived. Judy Garland can communicate so passionately through her music, it’s incredible to observe. While her career began as a child, it is really through tough times and the challenges of stardom that her voice’s ability deepened. There are a few examples below. Also included is one of the best duets that’s ever been performed, between Judy and Barbra (Get Happy / Happy Days Are Here Again). Truly an icon. Passionate, extraordinarily talented, and tremendous.
